Is a College degree worth less?
I would definitely say that going to college seems like a given birth right. Personally, me making my decision to go to college was hardly a decision at all. I knew that's what I was doing from the start; I didn't even think about having other options. I've always wanted to be a marine biologist and live in Florida or California; the reason I switched was because tuition is so high and I know I wouldn't be making enough money to pay it off. I came to bloom because the tuition is inexpensive.
I feel a great amount of pressure going to college from adults and employers. Back when they went to school, the expectation was low; as saying that obtaining a bachelors degree was enough to get you a good stable job. Now-a-days; everyone expects more. They expect masters and doctorate degrees, on top on playing sports, being involved in clubs, greek life, side jobs to know how to work, time management and it's almost impossible to do it all. I agree that the pressure is extremely high.
"It's what you have done during that degree to distinguish yourself ". I really liked this quote.
Should More People Skip College?
In my opinion, I believe college is very important. It is how I was raised and I wouldn't think any differently. I am the first person in my whole family to go to college and my parents always say that they wish they had the college experience and got a chance to go into a major and get a job they actually enjoyed.
It's very surprising that only two out of the top ten jobs require a college degree. By having a college degree, you raise your pay rate automatically. The higher the degree, the higher the salary. The opportunity cost for going to college is low in my opinion. College is an amazing blessing and experience where you learn to find yourself and learn how to work with other people and deal with stress.
Plan B: Skip College
I don't believe that everyone is cut out for college. If you just barely passed high school; you should look into alternate options to do in your future. A vo-tech school or training program would probably be most beneficial for their futures, But if you did do well in high school; I believe you should continue to learn and educate yourself in a secondary school. I believe it is the most beneficial. College is huge time for growth and maturity to develop.
